On proportion
Before a material is chosen or a wall is drawn, we set the ceiling height, because every other proportion in a room is read against it. A table, a doorway, a window sill — all of it is judged by the eye relative to the room’s vertical measure, not in isolation.
Get this one number wrong and no amount of material or craft will correct it later. Get it right, and the room feels inevitable rather than designed.
